Once the Malavoglia were as numerous as the stones of the old road of Trezza, there were even Ognina, and Aci Castello, all good and pious people of the sea, just the opposite of what looked like the nickname, as it should be. Actually in the book of the parish, were called Toscano, but this did not mean anything, because by that the world was the world all'Ognina in Trezza and Aci Castello, they had always known to Malavoglia, from father to son, who had always had boats on the water, and tiles in the sun.
